There are few who can boast of driving a car, alongside taking their first baby steps. An electric car as a gift on his first birthday was enough for Arjun Maini to fall in love with motorsport, thanks to speed-crazy dad, Gautam. His first win came in 2007 in the MRF Mini Max Challenge, where he win all five races of the 4-stroke Championship held at Coimbatore, Kolhapur and Goa, and went on to clinch the National Minimax Championship in the under-12 category at just 10. But the Sebastian Vettel fan got his real break as a 14-year-old in 2011 when he topped the 'One From A Billion' karting challenge - a talent search organised by Force India across seven cities in India.
The same year, he won four out of six races to clinch the JK Tyre Junior Max Championship. Maini made a switch to single-seater racing in 2013 in the JK Racing India series and is currently making heads turn in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship.
Been racing since 2006 from the past 11 years. It all started at a training program held by JK in Bangalore using the ROTAX MAX karts for the first time. He ended up winning the whole event and got the opportunity to train and race in Malaysia.
His first race was in 2004 at the J.K.Tyre National Karting Championship when he was 7 years old at the Speedzone cicuit in Bangalore, though it wasn’t an official race it was his first experiece in racing and he competed with his fellow competitor for the win.
First competitive race was in 2007, he won all the five races of the 4 stroke Championship held at Coimbatore, Kolhapur & Goa and was also crowned the National Minimax Champion under 12, before he turned 10.
Favourite racing moment was his first win in Europe which came at BRDC Formula 4 championship last year.
Favourite racetrack is Brands Hatch. He enjoys the challenge of this legendary circuit and he thinks elevation is excellent. He further says, “When you go through the fast corners you feel like your in Heaven”.
Racing idolis Sebastian Vettel. He looks up to him as a role model because of his determination and the fact that he is always hungry for more wins and all he has achieved despite being so young.
His best race so far has to be the most recent one at Pau where he managed a 4th and 5th, this was after two extremely difficult rounds which brings him to his worst race which was at Silverstone the opening round of the Formula 3 championship, where one small engine issue really damaged his weekend.
A race he would like to be part of are all the ones on the Formula One calendar.
A race machine he would like to get his hands on is is a Formula One car.
Currently racing in FIA Formula 3 European Championship.
