New Grassroots Programme for Girls
20 May 2019

We entered motorsports almost three decades ago, with the twin intentions of igniting a passion for driving among youngsters and creating grassroots infrastructure.

We succeeded in our mission fairly quickly, with Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandhok going on to become Formula One drivers. Their rise to eminence prompted others to follow in their footsteps and we soon saw a bevvy of talented lads making waves in international circuits.

Just this weekend, India’s Jehan Daruvala won an FIA Formula 3 race during the Spanish Grand Prix and the Indian National anthem played at an F1 setting for the first time, bringing great cheer to aficionados in the country.

Over the years, JK Tyre Motorsports has also played a pro-active role in encouraging girls to take to the sport and our efforts have yielded heartening results there too. Sneha Sharma and Mira Erda, both, emerged from our karting programmes and are now competing in international formula racing.

To keep up this trend, we under the aegis of FMSCI, are adopting FIA’s highly successful initiative: the Girls on Track (GoT) program. It is successfully held in different parts of the world, encouraging women to enter the world of motorsports.

The objective behind bringing one of the world’s biggest motorsport to connect initiatives for women to India is to spread awareness at the grassroots level and also to bring girls to the track and give them exposure to various aspects of the sport.

The two-day program, one each to be held in north, central and south India, is designed to attract girls in the age group of 8-12 years and 13-25 to try their hand at go-karting and 14-30 years at two-wheeler motorcycles.

The girls will be taken through various sessions, like basic karting and motorcycle slaloms, racing simulator competitions, pitstop tyre-changing competitions on an Indian-make Formula car and Batak Life Reflex and coordination competitions.

In addition, they will be educated about nutrition and fitness as also aero, mechanical and tyre dynamics to prepare them towards the life of a race driver.

More details about the program, including the registration process, venues, where to turn up for initial sessions, mentors on the track etc will soon be uploaded on our social media pages.

Do not miss out on this golden opportunity, ladies, to begin your journey towards international motorsports.
